Re-Elect Sheriff Kenny Furlong in 2026

Bio

My name is Ken Furlong, or as I’m known to many in town, just Kenny. Carson City isn’t just where I work, it’s my home, and it’s been my passion. I’m a lifelong resident, a graduate of Carson High School, and someone who cares deeply about this community and the people in it. This is a characteristic foundation.

Growing up in a law enforcement family allowed me many opportunities. Among them was the light that those officers of the past left on me. They were the ones who forged a dream of mine to serve Carson City and the Sheriff’s Office. They were heroes, mentors, and at times educators.

In 1975, I married my late wife, Phyllis. Together we built a beautiful family of two children and eight grandchildren. During my time serving in the United States Air Force, our family had the opportunity to travel extensively, but Carson City was always where our hearts belonged.

While serving in the military, I had the opportunity to work in the U.S., Korea, and in European environments. Throughout those assignments, I learned and experienced so much about how others carry out law enforcement duties and responsibilities. Even further, my career with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations was a direct handoff back into this community.

We returned home in 1998, settled back in and rebuilt our footing for family here. Following my Air Force retirement, I served with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, working in Parole and Probation and in the State Investigations Division. In those capacities, major crime investigations were always my passion, just as it was in the military.

In January 2003, I had the honor of becoming the 27th Sheriff of Carson City. A responsibility I’ve never taken lightly. As a Carson City resident, veteran, law enforcement officer, husband, father and grandfather, the safety of this community has always been my top priority.

For me, the role of Sheriff has always been service, compassion, trust, and community. Whether you’ve been here your whole life or just recently made Carson City your home, I’m committed to keeping this community safe, strong, and connected with innovation and experience.

I believe strongly in leadership, professionalism in law enforcement, community engagement, and service far above self. This character philosophy was built from growing up here, serving in the Armed Forces, and during my tenure as Sheriff.

Thank you for your new and continuing support to me.
